Edward Gorey Garden Party

A Garden Party to be held at the Historic Overlook House in North Portland on June 14th! Come for costumes, dancing (inside), victorian games, afternoon libations and photographic services!

Music on wax provided by DJ Apocalypse and DJ Curiatrix! Live Performers being lined up!

This is a fundraising event for the latest film from OverThought Productions and Late Bloomer Productions, "Widow's Walk Lake". It is a storybook narrative set in the 1930s that follows a young man as he goes off to war leaving his wife behind. Inspired by the atmospheric children's novels by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, the story takes a turn for the macabre when the young man does not return--all in one piece. A tragic mistake followed by a fatal decision leads to a spooky tale of loneliness and despair, told best on a dark and stormy night. For more information and prices visit:

Interested in learning about Buddhism? - Free

Presented by Debbie Liptan, a life-long Oregonian and long-time Overlook resident. Debbie began her practice and study of Nichiren Buddhism in 1969 and has continued ever since. A lay Buddhist, her primary focus is on teaching people how the ancient philosophy of Buddhism applies to every day life in our very real world. Knitting and Crochet forum

The Historic Overlook House will host a free weekly knitting and crochet “open forum” for crafters to get together and work on their projects. Crafters are responsible for bringing all their own materials. All ages, genders and skill levels are welcome! "Bean Sprout" Story Hour

Ages 2 to 5 years, Siblings Welcome! With "Sing-a-Long" "Toddler Story Time" & "Play/Activity Time" activities. Join instructor Debi Davidson in "Bean Sprout" story hour for kids! This multi-faceted children’s hourly program is full of fun activities, educational learning tools and is a positive interaction experience for kids 2-5 years of age. Our mission is to have children use their own creativity. In the process, they will be using their mental, emotional and social skills. This fun experience time is FREE and will be held in the upstairs of the Overlook house. Penny's Puppet Shows

Penny will be hosting regular affordable puppet shows in the welcoming warm environment of the Overlook House. All ages are welcome. Guests can sit in chairs or on the floor while they play with puppets and dancing scarves along with shake egg shakers or settle in with a book. This is participation for all program with singing, clapping, and wiggling encouraged. Free Coffee and Tea and Stickers for all to enjoy.

Ongoing Classes:


Yoga and You at the Overlook House

North Portland Resident and yoga instructor Heidi Jo Timm holds weekly classes at the Overlook House and its lovely back lawn (weather permitting). Heidi teaches an alignment focused style that encourages balance in the body and mind. Her gentle, yet challenging approach emphasizes building inner awareness, strength and flexibility. Classes are in session and are open to beginners as well as experienced yoga enthusiasts. Please note that a mat will be necessary and capacity is limited to twenty-five. Tai Chi Chih

This American form of Tai Chi is easy to learn (and remember) with great circulation and balance of chi energy. It does not require physical fitness or coordination and will provide many health and well-being benefits. Seniors welcome. Classes are ongoing in eight week cycles. Holiday Craft Bazaar at the Overlook House - 2009

Overlook House provides three floors of exciting Handmade Crafts, Baked Goods, Jewelry, Candles, Ceramics, Decorations, Artwork, Holiday Floral, Quilts/Unique Sewing Notions, Stocking Stuffers and much more!
All monies from the raffle and home-baked goods sale will go towards the N.W. Children’s Theatre Summer Camp at the Overlook House in July.

Santa Comes To The Overlook House - 2009

HO! HO! HO! Its the holidays - time for me fun, for good ol' Santa is coming to the Overlook House! Now everything's in apple-pie order - the sleigh's all shiny and ready to take off and so is the roly-poly old man with his big bag of goodies coming to see all of his favorite children (and grown-ups too!) Have your photo taken for free with Santa and enjoy the FUN activities!
